Decorative cookie tin

I have finished writing my thank you's to those who helped me during my recovery.  To go along with the cards, I'm giving some chocolate oatmeal chippers for my friends to enjoy. They are one of my favorite cookie recipes! I got the recipe through a cookbook called, Come and Dine. It was published several years ago from the camp that I worked at and went to as a kid--Ironwood Christian Camp. I love camp food, and there's no doubt about it that Ironwood has some of the best food around!

Don't they look great?  Here's the recipe for ya--enjoy!

Chocolate Oatmeal Chippers

1 cup margarine or butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cup flour
2 cups oats
1 1/2 cup chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream margarine and sugars until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in next four ingredients. Blend in oats, chocolate chips, and nuts if desired. Place 1" pieces of dough 1 1/2"apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8-10 minutes only until set. Yield: 50 cookies

I was able to make a decorative tin yesterday to give to my doctor and nurse at the clinic. It was my way of saying thanks for all their help and encouragement they've given me through my painful physical journey. I got inspiration for this tin through the blog, Tip Junkie.

Here's what I did:  I cleaned out a fruit can thoroughly, then set it to dry. I used two little stamps--a teddy bear and one that said, "thanks beary much" and stamped them all over the paper. I colored in the teddy bear with my chalks and colored pencils to match the ribbon I had chosen. I cut the paper to fit the tin, then glued it on using a glue gun. After that, I glued on the ribbon on the top and bottom of the tin. The floral wire was glued on to the sides on the inside of the can. I placed about 6 or 7 chocolate oatmeal chippers inside, then placed white tissue paper on top.

The nurse absolutely loved the tin and the cookies. During my visit with the doctor, I noticed her eating a couple of the cookies as she worked. Cookie tins can be made and given to neighbors for holidays or given at parties. It would definitely be something we can all do as a ministry to others. There are lots of sick and shut-in people we know that would love receiving a gift like this.

It's a simple heartfelt gift that anyone would love.

  4. I made these yesterday and they are so yummy! The boys kept coming in asking for one so finally I sent a plate of cookies outside with them. The younger two came back in with lots of chocolate on their face and hands. It was so cute. They said, "Mom those were so good!" (-:
